The Nyanjigi Irrigation Project was done in Kangema Constituency in Murang’a County, and was financed by the Government of Kenya through the National Irrigation Authority.
The project aimed to provide water for micro-irrigation, domestic use and livestock to approximately 1,000 people within the sub-catchment, specifically in Nyakahura and Githunguri.
The contract was awarded to Power and Solar Group Ltd for a total contract sum of KES 261,901,65.
The project’s main source of water supply was the River Mathioya and it was implemented in three phases:
Phase 1 Involved the construction of intake works (weir)
Phase 2 was the laying of conveyance of 12km of 315mm diameter uPVC pipes.
Phase 3 was the implementation of sub-mains, laterals, and feeder lines of 54 kilometers varying from different sizes of pipes 20mm-250mm diameter.
